The Nighttime Routine That Doubles the Life of Your Braids

Care Guide4 min readApril 10, 2026

Most braid problems are nighttime problems. Friction from cotton pillowcases, dry air, and uncovered ends quietly destroy the install while you sleep.

This ritual is one of the five habits in my free guide, 5 Secrets to Braids That Last — the rest are just as small and just as load-bearing.

The five-minute ritual

  • Mist roots and lengths with a water + leave-in spray
  • Seal the ends with a few drops of light oil (jojoba or grapeseed)
  • Loosely gather braids — never tight
  • Tie down edges with a satin scarf
  • Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase as backup
Protect them at night and they'll show up for you all day.
